HAUNTING Archaic Aphrodite -- Knidos, Caria, c. 465 - 449 B.C.

Silver drachm, Cahn 80 (V38/R53), SNG Keckman 132 (same dies), SNG Cop 232 (same dies), aVF, toned, 6.057g, 16.5mm, 270o, Knidos mint, c. 465 - 449 B.C.; obverse forepart of roaring lion right; reverse archaic head of Aphrodite right, hair bound with taenia, within incuse square; ex Barry P. Murphy collection.

One of my all-time favorite coins; a hauntingly beautiful face in the Archaic Style. Note the date of this coin, mid 5th century BC.

A fascinating coin with an equally fascinating story to tell, and an eye-appeal that can come only with accidents of time. Pricey? Not at all, not for this beauty! This is a coin you don't want to miss and experience the pang of regret -- you will not see its like again, and once gone, it's gone ... never to be repeated!
